Our First RV Adventure!

We've been talking to Zuzu and Tootie about our upcoming motorhome trip for a few weeks now. But, until the day of departure, they avoided this large box on wheels that makes strange noises sitting ominously in the yard (well, Tootie did anyway...Zuzu warmed up to it once she discovered a clever little rodent building a nest in our radiator compartment. No worries, we permanently evicted the little critter.)

When we were ready to go, they surely didn't want to be left behind and happily leapt up the stairs and found a comfortable perch on the sofa. Are they ready for the adventure?
So, with the house all shuttered (she looks so sad closed up) and the boat on its blocks in the yard...
we headed for the motorhome for departure.
Tootie, who never misses an opportunity to lay down and sleep, was already getting used to traveling in an RV. Zuzu, looking all regal and princess-like, was contemplating her first stop...or maybe her next meal.

Leaving MM17 at 3:00pm, we made the always beautiful drive northward towards the mainland. It was a beautiful day, an excellent day to be on the water along with the other 10,000 boats we saw. We made it to Florida City by 5:00pm, and made steady progress up the turnpike through Miami-Dade and Broward. We stopped for the night at the West Palm Beach service area. It was a bit noisy with truck traffic, but the girls quickly became used to the noise and settled in for the evening.

The next morning, we made it back on the road after breakfast. After passing through some nerve-rattling thunderstorms (Zuzu doesn't like thunder) in Orlando and Clermont, the turnpike led us to I-75.
It always seems that Zuzu or Tootie will head for the RV door after we pass a rest area. It appeared that Tootie was rather serious about her desire to go outside, so took the next exit and found a grassy area next to a gas station for her pooh pooh emergency. She was much happier post-poop and quickly resumed her nap on the bed.
Zuzu, however, made sure we were safe whenever we stopped. Our fearless Vizsla protecting her rolling home. Good dog!
As we made it further north, the scenery changed and the critters were more abundant. Especially the furry ones with fluffy tails. It has been six months since Zuzu chased her last squirrel. I didn't miss it, but I'm the one at the other end of the leash being pulled towards the tree we can't climb!

We spent our second night on the road in north Georgia near Dalton. It is an expansive rest area with lots of great smells for our canine travel companions. We thought this was a good photo opportunity with the motorhome parked in the background.

We were parked near the dog walk, the place with the BEST smells. Tootie was doing much better with the truck and traffic noise emanating from the other side of the tree line.

Zuzu was always curious about the goings on outside. Tootie, however, was content with her digs inside the RV. Here, she's waiting patiently for her sister to make her observations before they both head back to the bedroom for the next leg of our journey.

We looked forward to stopping at various rest areas along the way to give Zuzu and Tootie an opportunity to take in the new odors and scents. Here, we took a break from the road in the rest area on top of old smokey...or whatever the "mountain" is called just north of Chattanooga on I-24.

Happy dogs!

Very happy and comfortable traveling dogs!

We stopped to feed the RV propane tank and fill the fuel tanks.

Zuzu looks like she's enjoying the trip. It was getting warmer, though. They were spending less time outside and more time in the AC.

After three days on the road, we made it to St. Louis. We'll stay here for a couple of weeks before heading East to the greater D.C. area to visit family. Stay tuned...
