What's in a name?

Entry by W:
We took a day away from the blog but we’re back, beginning with an explanation of why we decided to change the girls’ names.
We were OK with “Dolly” and certainly “Betty” is a nice enough name but there was a “Betty” in my (long) past that I found particular joy in making crude fun.
In consideration of the most minimal change possible we reasoned we could keep the name “Dolly” and change “Betty” to “Bella” which is very close in intonation. However meeting with the girls prior to adoption and having had the opportunity to observe their personalities, we discussed renaming them “Tootie” and “Zuzu”.
These names are characters in a couple favorite movies. “Tootie” was the cute little girl in “Meet Me in St Louis”. In the movie Tootie’s character was given to adventure, traditions and especially family loyalty. Zuzu was the adorable character in “It’s a Wonderful Life” whose wilted rose petals affirmed the lead’s life (and value). In the movie when the petals are discovered by the lead he exclaims “Zuzu! My little ginger-snap!”
Upon discussion with our vizsla mentors it was pointed out that to date neither girl really knew her name as they were just names given rather quickly once the girls were rescued since prior to that point they (probably) were livestock and had no name(s). As to the name “Bella” it turns out that it is ubiquitous for dogs (females as well as males!). So we made the change and the girls have new names to go with their new lives!
Wilted rose petals aside, Zuzu and Tootie, the newest members of our family, remind that when shared with those you love life’s journey is truly the greatest gift and it is made ever more meaningful through those you have loved and will always remember.
